Great Site Map Development Tool

When redesigning my university’s 1,200+ page website Cacoo really came in handy for developing our site map.  For a site of that size it was difficult to find a diagramming tool which would easily adapt to an evolving information architecture.  We’re an all-Mac shop so that ruled out some options early on.

I found Cacoo’s drawing tools easy to use.  It also has some pretty nice collaboration features so members of our team can contribute.  Each map has a url that we were able to use to share with our vice presidents and various vendors involved in our redesign project.

The pricing structure is very generous.  I was surprised by how much I could do with the free account.  The Cacoo team upgraded our account for a year-long .edu free trial.  I can definitely find more uses for this.

LinkedIn Maps, from LinkedIn Labs, offers:

Your professional world. Visualized.

An interesting thing about the map is that they leave the task of labeling the legend to you without assuming how your connections are related.  Get yours at inmaps.linkedinlabs.com/.
